KS1
The KS1 staff welcome the children into a classroom which offers a nurturing environment, a high level of adult support as well as an understanding and empathy towards every pupil's needs. Children, under the guidance of these experienced staff, are able to start understanding and learning how to manage their own behaviour through a variety of strategies and techniques. There is an emphasis on learning which is individually differentiated to promote academic progress in tandem with increases in confidence and self-esteem.
The curriculum focuses on the key subjects of reading, writing and maths. All KS1 children are taught daily phonics. Lessons are often topic based which will include practical and creative activities as well as covering most aspects of the wider curriculum. There is also an emphasis on addressing and improving the pupil's social skills through activities designed to promote communication, understanding of rules, turn-taking and appropriate ways to win and lose.
